In response to the increasing frequency of extreme heat events in Canada, and we certainly know all about that in our listening area, the Government of Ontario is taking proactive measures to safeguard workers’ health.
The proposed regulations aim to establish exposure limits and guidelines for heat stress-related illnesses across all workplaces in the province.
Under the proposal, workplaces would be required to adhere to specific heat-stress exposure limits, following established methodologies for assessing heat exposures.
Moreover, employers would be mandated to implement effective measures to manage and mitigate heat exposures. Additionally, they would need to furnish workers with comprehensive information on identifying early signs of heat-related illnesses.
As heat waves and heat-related health issues are anticipated to rise, the Ontario government underscores the urgent need for action. Protecting the well-being of workers is paramount, and these regulations signify a significant step towards reducing the health risks associated with extreme heat events in Ontario.
