An Indigenous leaders’ coalition wants Ontario housing minister and Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark, and his chief of staff to resign.
Its in response to the Auditor General finding the government didn’t consult Indigenous communities before allowing Greenbelt land housing development.
Chiefs of Ontario, representing 133 First Nations, met to discuss their response to Auditor General’s report, which showed there was developer influence on the Greenbelt site selection process through access to Clarks’ chief of staff.
Premier Ford and Clark acknowledge flawed selection process but have thus far rejected any calls for personnel changes or development reversal.
The Chiefs will continue to work with the ministry, but have suspended cooperation with Clark until a resolution has been reached.
