Centennial Square in Almonte will officially be renamed The Dr. James Naismith Square.
Councillor Bev Holmes, who brought the motion forward, noted that it’s already referred to as that by many given the bronze statue of the inventor of basketball being there.
But they wanted to make it official.
The motion passed unanimously, and the new name will be unveiled during November’s birthday celebrations of Dr. Naismith.
