Easter Seals Canada has released a statement following the death of Smiths Falls Native Ryan Smolkin who died suddenly earlier this week at the age of 50.
In tribute to the founder of Smoke’s Poutinerie, they write that “Ryan understood the magic of Easter Seals camps, and his dedication to the cause was truly remarkable.”
The organization notes that the Smolkin family cottage was across from Camp Merrywood near Port Elmsley, adding, “He fondly remembered hearing the laughter and singing of campers throughout the summers.”
Ryan and his team came up with the World Poutine Eating CEO Challenge back in 2016, raising nearly a million dollars to send kids with physical disabilities to Easter Seals camps.
Easter Seals said, “Ryan’s generosity and passion for making a difference will forever be imprinted on our hearts. Thank you, Ryan, for the positive impact you had on so many individuals in our community.”
According to his obituary from Blair and Sons Funeral Directors in Smiths Falls, Ryan’s funeral service will be held on November 2nd at 1:30 pm at Ottawa Torah Centre.
Interment will follow at the Jewish Memorial Gardens in Greely.
