The bursary program named after former Leeds-Grenville Warden Bill Thake has been granted a ten year extension by counties council.
The moves pleases Westport Mayor Robin Jones.
The program provides two $1000 bursaries annually to one students at Rideau District High School in Athens and another at St, John Catholic High School in Perth.
Thake passed away in 2013. He had served as a Councillor in Westport before becoming the longest serving mayor in Ontario’s history at 44 years. During his tenure he served on Counties Council and was Warden of Leeds-Grenville several times.
