It was a monster session of Perth’s Committee of the Whole yesterday, and most of it went to budget talks.
Treasurer Brian Burns presented a budget calling for a 6% increase in both taxes and water bills meaning $212 more for a home with an assessed value of $300K.
Burns says reducing the tax increase to just 4% would mean putting off capital projects. Doing so would raise the price tag on them, resulting in a larger rate increase for town residents.
More talks are scheduled before a final vote in December.

Totally opposed to this. My last Utility bill was as follows:
Water consumption $13.92 Water delivery charge $54.60 Sewer charge $68.52
Total $137.04
This is already ridiculous for a house with 2 seniors living here.
Please explain if I only used $13.92 worth of water, where did the rest go that I was charged the extra $123.12.
It is my opinion that I should only be charged delivery for what I used as well as sewer charge for disposing of the water that was used. This is already gouging the tax payers of Perth and has an impact on seniors in this community.
