P A N C A K E S
Alright we’re into double digits with the latest Grant Can Cook. Now the recipes I’ve taken on haven’t been all that challenging. It’s more about making the effort I normally would avoid if this did not become a popular radio segment.
That is perhaps the most evident with this week’s edition of pancakes.
Normal Grant would go out and buy the ready-made mixture, toss it into a pan and boom, pancakes. Actually, Normal Grant wouldn’t even go that far to do even that. That’s too much work.
Grant Can Cook Grant however made this from scratch and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was.
I went off this as a template, but ended up adding more milk, butter and flour as I was stirring because Adam Weekes got into my head.
He told me what’s key to a good batter was to have it mixed well, but not too well. He told me that when I hit the sweet spot, the batter will slooowwwllly run down the whisk. If it runs off too quickly, it’s too much milk and add flour.
Well, he solved the housing crisis with that advice because it lived Rent Free in my head later that night while I’m trying to eyeball the mixture to see if it was running down too quickly or too slowly.
It ended up being, in my mind, the latter, so I added more milk and butter, but then it ran down too quickly. So, more flour. But then, again, too slow! More milk, more butter.
Armageddon ensued. Mothers and fathers rushed to comfort their children, who were screaming “that’s too much butter!” at me below from the streets.
Sirens wailed in the background. The police were pounding at my door. “That’s enough milk! We won’t hesitate to break this door down!” they said.
At least I think that’s what they were saying. I couldn’t hear them. I was too focused on watching the batter fall off the whisk.
Anyways, the pancakes tasted good. Listen to the segment below.
