The Perth Heritage Downtown BIA is looking forward to continued growth in the town as a way to support local business.
As we hear from their John McKenty, well thought out, responsible housing developments are vital to keep local business alive.
McKenty says an influx of new people is good for business, but it also brings in new workers for our manufacturing sector, and can even lead to new public facilities being built such as arenas or even hospitals. He also says growth can’t be limited to outskirts.
McKenty adds support for small businesses in Perth remains strong, but has pulled back from levels seen during the pandemic. He is encouraging all to look at local options before ordering online or travelling to a big box store.
Perhaps the reason people are going to the city to big box stores is that nothing in Perth opens until 10AM downtown and if you have to wait until then to shop you might as well get in the car at 9AM and drive to Ottawa. Also there is little variety of shopping to be done in Perth. There is no shoe store and one men’s clothing store, not a very good selection to shop. The downtown has turned into a tourist stop, much like Westport, with little boutiques and such.
Pleased to say that I was able to do ALL my Christmas shopping in Perth…took some gifts to England where they were a big hit!
