Health Minister Sylvia Jones was asked during a press conference what her ministry and the provincial government is doing to address the overcrowded and understaffed emergency departments across Ontario.
She makes the argument that throwing money at the many concerns isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
Jones says the government’s addressed the long-term concerns by expanding the number of nurse, lab technician and physician positions in schools, and referenced last summer’s $330 million investment into pediatric care.
She says they’ve been working and implementing solutions for both the short and long term and referenced some examples.
Emergency departments continue to operate beyond capacity with not enough staff, leading to closures in many cases. In other cases agencies are used to fill the gaps. We’ve seen both scenarios play out locally.

One solution is paying triple the cost for simple surgery to private [aka: PC donors] companies. Rather than spend that money investing in expanding public facilities.
Privateers versus proven ‘best practices”.
