With February underway, many people are looking ahead to Valentine’s Day, including scammers.
Sergeant John Armit from the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre and OPP says romance frauds are something that happen regularly.
The Sergeant added that often times it relies on trust between the scammer and victim.
There are a few red flags you should look for when talking to somebody online, according to Armit.
He says in 2023, more than $50-million in funds was reported stolen to the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre through romance scams alone.
