February is the month of love. It’s also an opportunity to support the Maple View Landings Long-term care redevelopment project in Athens. It’s the building of the G. Tackaberry and Family Home.
Doug Struthers chairs the fundraising committee and talks to Lanark Leeds Today, about the work required in the months ahead.
Struthers says fundraising has passed the $1.5 million mark which is the halfway point. The push is on to top $2 million dollars during the next few months.
Struthers says the success of fundraising initiatives like the Tackaberry and Family Home project always circle back to an engaged community.
Struthers says you can celebrate those already living at Maple View and those who will call
Tackaberry home in the future, by participating in the February Month of Love campaign.
Struthers says the current Maple View Landings facility has 64 beds accomodating people from every corner of the county and beyond.
The new long term care home will have close to 200 beds.
County officials say the building of the G. Tackaberry and Family Home is the largest capital construction project in the history of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
The project is on budget and on schedule with a move-in date expected in the Spring / Summer of 2025.
Planning a future for the existing Maple View Landings facility is already underway. It’s been suggested it could be converted into a county owned facility operated by a third party. It could also be repurposed as a mixed-use facility including residential space for independent living and a temporary living quarters for staff of the new Tackaberry facility. There could also be a
commercial component hosting offices for health professionals.
