As we mark Black History Month, the Ontario government has announced new mandatory learning of Black History in Canada.
During the announcement, Patrice Barnes, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education, shared that she understands the critical importance of ensuring our educational system reflects the diverse experiences in our history
Starting September 2025, Students in grades 7, 8, and 10 history classes in the Upper Canada District School Board and Catholic District School Board will spotlight Black history as integral to Canadian history, covering the emergence, development, and contributions of Black communities pre- and post-Confederation.
