Heat pumps brought a warm debate at a Lanark County council committee meeting on Wednesday as staff brought forward a proposal to service 149 County owned residences with them in Carleton Place, Perth, Smiths Falls, and Mississippi Mills.
In order to meet federal funding energy efficient requirements, staff was proposing to install high-quality cold climate heat pumps while keeping existing heating systems operating as back-ups.
There were questions about the County’s lack of experience in terms of utility cost savings with heat pumps, but several councilors around the horseshoe related positive history with their own units.
At the end of the discussion the committee approved the project.
