Transitional housing is coming to Smiths Falls.
The vacant Willowdale Retirement Home will be used to accommodate 11 individuals on the 61 member By Name List Lanark County uses to track those currently homeless.
Director of Social Services Emily Hollington says those who move in will have to pay a participation fee, as well as put in the work to try and secure permanent housing.
There’ll be various support programs offered to the residents by Lanark County Mental Health who is hiring a full-time social worker to help.
The estimated annual cost of the program is $296,000, which will be paid by the province through a surplus in an existing funding stream.

This may be good news, maybe not. To say that everything has been put in place without any input from local residents is a little disturbing.
