The town of Smiths Falls is on track to adopt a lighting of municipal assests policy at their next council meeting.
Previously, organizations would ask the town to light up the water tower for an event, which cost about $500 as the town would need to rent a bucket truck to install and remove the light shade.
Now it’ll all be done through an app.
This is an example of updating their policies with the times, says Mayor Shawn Pankow.
Instead of lighting up the water tower, permanent fixtures were installed at the bandstand and municipal complex.
Requests are made through the clerk’s office.
