Provincial NDP Leader Marit Stiles has commented on the funding situation for promary health care in Perth, and across the province.
In many cases, provincial funding is coming in for one medical clinic, and not another. That leaves the future care of thousands of patients in question.
She told myFM she’s taken those concerns to the top.
Wen it comes to Perth, Tay River Medical was denied funds and officials there say if the province doesn’t reverse that decision, they may have to close within the next four years.
Stiles says that’s the wrong move.
The NDP leader urges the Ministry of Health to act quickly to avoid a medical disaster by adding funding to increase support for these clinics.
Patients are looking for answers, and soon may be looking for a new family doctor if the situation doesn’t improve.
Stiles says the province should be funding the clinics instead of dodging questions of why they haven’t been doing so.
The Town of Perth and Tay River Medical have both asked the province to reverse it’s decision and provide the funding. If it’s instated, the team-approach model they’d like to implement would result in more than 10,000 people in our listening area gaining access to primary care.
88.1 myFM is keeping a close eye on this story and will bring you and developments as they break.
Why didn’t Tay Medical Clinic apply to for this funding in the first place instead of letting another clinic do all the work to get this funding?
