MPP for Lanark-Frontenac and Kingston John Jordan spoke with myFM about yesterday’s provincial budget and what it means for the people in his riding.
One of the items included that he says will make an impact here is money set aside for housing.
As he looks in his own backyard, Jordan who is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care is particularly pleased with the government’s commitment to that portfolio.
He says that mean that builds that they’d like to do in Perth are more likely to go ahead.
The MPP is also pleased to see more support for healthcare, especially with the challenges faced recently in our listening area.
He says 59 capital project are underway or complete across the province including the new MRI suite at the Smiths Falls Site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital and the new Emergency Department in Carleton Place.
Jordan also points to investments in education that could lead to new schools for the area, though things are in the early stages.
Ontario is projecting a $9.8-billion-dollar budget deficit for the coming fiscal year. The deficit for 2024-25 is almost double what the province projected in the fall economic update, but a return to surplus is expected in 2026.
