Charges have now been laid following a fatal collision in Lanark County last December that resulted in an Ottawa father being charged in the death of his 10-year-old son.
The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. on December 13th, 2025, on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7.
Ontario Provincial Police say a marked police cruiser was struck by an oncoming pickup truck while an officer was on patrol.
Three people were inside the pickup truck. 10-year-old Michael Bigras suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a regional trauma centre by Ornge, but died the following day.
Two other occupants were treated for serious injuries.
Following an investigation involving the Lanark County OPP, collision reconstructionists and the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, 40-year-old Matthew Bigras, the alleged driver of the pickup, has been charged with dangerous and impaired operation causing bodily harm and death.
According to a GoFundMe created for the family following the crash, Michael was reportedly ejected from his seat when the truck hit a patch of black ice before colliding with the OPP cruiser.
Nearly $83,000 has been raised through the fundraiser.
Bigras was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on August 24th.
